Dear Groningen Gemeente,
My name is Maria Bompa and I am reaching out on behalf of the LGBTQIA+ Expertise Centre at the RUG. We would like to invite you to participate at our Queer Science event, on the 4th June, at the House of Connections (open doors 18.00-21.00). Because Groningen will host the Roze Zaterdag (Pink Saturday) this year, we are collaborating with them to highlight the diversity of LGBTQIA+ conducted at the University, making sure to include positive research, not just negative factors associated with the LGBTQIA+ identity. Our event will be a combination of activities, and you can freely move between them:
Lecture carousel: Guest researchers will give short presentations (~10min) about their LGBTQIA+ research. Some topics include identity development, LGBTQIA+ media representation, and radical lesbianism in the ‘70s USA.
Citizen science: Have you ever wondered how LGBTQIA+ research is done? Find out by participating yourself in a short and fast experiment.
Living library: In the living library, you can talk to queer researchers, participants, or queer organisation members. You can ask questions about their experience doing LGBTQIA+ research, or hear a participant’s perspective. Some “Books” can also talk about their life experiences as a queer person.
You don’t need to know anything about LGBTQIA+ research, science, or even be LGBTQIA+ yourself to join. This is an open (and free) event, welcoming anyone who is open-minded and curious to learn about this topic. Keep in mind that the event will be in English, but many of us also speak Dutch. In short, you’re welcome to join us on Tuesday, June 4th, at the House of Connections (adr. Grote Markt 21, 9712 HR). The doors are open 18.00-21.00. Entrance is free of charge.
